NEW OPENING TIMES FOR THE ROMAN CIRCUS VISITOR CENTRE
Good news! Due to the popularity of our recent ‘Colchester’s Street of Tombs’ exhibition and public demand to see the Roman Circus archaeological heritage site, the Visitor Centre and Café will be open to the public TUESDAY to FRIDAY, 11 am to 3 pm, until Easter 2021.
If you haven’t been to site of Britain’s only known chariot-racing track yet, or would like to see what has been recently unearthed in Camulodunum, then why not come along on a week. The Visitor Centre is a great place to spend some time in on a rainy day too!
Our volunteers are making enormous contributions to the development of the Roman Circus Centre. We bought our building three years ago. It was in quite a mess to put it mildy but our volunteers are gradually working their way through the building transforming it into a thing of beauty. There are lots of things you could do such as painting and decorating, cleaning and marking archaeological finds, gardening, diy, model making, giving guided tours of the centre, and computer work with the archaeologists. If you have a few hours to spare each week, why not consider giving us a try? The first step is to get in touch and arrange to pay us a visit. We will show you around and you could decide if there is something you would like to try.
Guided tours of Britain’s only known chariot-racing track.
Led by our knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteer guides, tours of the site and remains of the Roman circus are held every Saturday at 12 noon and 1 pm.
Meet at the Roman circus model in the Visitor Centre. Tickets can be purchased on the day from the guides.
Tour Prices: Adults £4.50 (includes an information leaflet), Under 16’s £2, Under 5’s FREE.
Tour Duration: Between 50-60 minutes
